Flower Show 2026 Roundup and Winners

At times on Saturday 1st August, the queue for Cream Teas and Cakes resembled The Battle of Helm’s Deep (Lord of the Rings: The Twin Towers), just substitute over 191 paying visitors (plus many kids) for 10,000 Orcs.

The attendance was up on last year. The number of exhibitors was up from last year’s 60 to a marvel 81. Who would have thought that so many Flowers, Fruit and Veg would be on display, after yet another difficult growing season.

President Tim Schroder delivered an entertaining speech to commence the handing out of prizes. Colin Thornton, on behalf of St Andrews Curry Rivel PCC received a cheque of £250, from the Flower Show, towards the new Church Carpet Fund from Anne Pouncey.

Red Riding Hood’s Granny’s hamper was sumptuous, the raffle prizes were super and the cakes were delicious. The under 9’s and 9-12’s classes were full of imagination. There was a ‘ding dong’ battle in all classes. Congratulations to our winners. Why not enter next year or attend the show, although we may need a ‘bigger boat’ (sorry Village Hall). The Flower Show would be nothing without the many volunteers who set up the Show, helped in the judging process and then ‘manned’ the door, kitchen, raffle table and the hamper table. Thank you to everyone who did any of these things.
