Marathon Effort!

Curry Rivel resident Lee Power was part of the world record-breaking 2025 London Marathon on April 27.

The 50-year-old completed the 26.2-mile course, on a warm sunny day, in a time of4:56.51 as one of 56,640 finishers.

He admitted it exceeded his expectations, saying: “The whole day was a great experience. The crowds were fantastic, continually calling your name in support. And it was great to see family and friends on the course too for an added boost.

“My training had gone well up until early April when I was left with a very sore leg after a 20-mile run around various local villages. So I went into marathon day having not done much at all other than rest for three weeks.

“But I took it much steadier than originally planned and kept running until mile 18, when I had to walk for a bit. I kept walking/running in the closing stages and was delighted to finish inside five hours given the circumstances.

“I was raising money for St Margaret’s Hospice in Taunton and have been overwhelmed by the support I’ve received. But there is still time for more donations!!”
